Conferences

In Our Name was formed in 2012 as a civic learning and advocacy organization dedicated to bringing public attention to social, economic, procedural, and restorative justice matters and to assisting justice involved people and their families in dealing with the criminal justice process and its aftermath.

In August 2012 we hosted the first weekend symposium on the American Justice System-“In Our Name-Restoring Justice in America”. It was a weekend where advocates, criminal justice professionals, and members of the bar, academic, faith and general communities in the tri-state areas, came together to learn and discuss and come up with workable proposals for reform of our justice system.  The theme for the weekend was – freedom through education.

In May 2013 we hosted our second conference which was titled, “When Johnny Comes Marching Home…and Gets Arrested – From Honor to Dishonor and Back Again”. It was co-hosted by Dr. Edward Tick, PhD and Kate Dahlstedt, LMHC, the developers of Soldier’s Heart. The conference primarily focused on the ordeal of prosecution and imprisonment experienced by our Veterans with combat related PTSD, whose condition leads to acts of violence and drug and alcohol addiction.
